Car Electrical Repair in Al Quoz for Batteries, Lights and Wiring
A car that clicks but will not start is an electrical fault. So is a battery light that comes on at a signal on Al Khail Road, or a window that stops halfway. Car Garage Auto Repair handles all of these electrical issues at Al Khail Gate, 12th Street, Al Quoz Industrial Second, Al Quoz, Dubai.
We find the cause with a full module scan and meter tests. We will give you the price before changing any part. The workshop is open Sunday to Saturday, 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Call 058 872 6790 to book.
Car Electrical Repair: What It Covers and How Long It Takes
Car electrical repair involves testing and fixing every part that makes, stores, or uses power in your car. That covers the 12V battery, alternator, starter motor, fuses, relays, wiring harness, sensors, lights, and control modules such as the ECU and BCM. At Car Garage Auto Repair, we trace each fault with three tests. These are an OBD2 scan of all modules, a battery and charging test, and a voltage drop test on the failed circuit. A battery or fuse job usually takes under an hour. Wiring repairs, module coding, and water damage can take from half a day to two days.
Signs Your Car Needs Car Electrical Repair and Whether It Is Safe to Drive
Most cars that need car electrical repair show one of the signs below.
What you notice | Most likely cause | Safe to drive? |
Clicking sound, engine does not turn | Weak battery, loose terminal or starter solenoid | No, it will not start reliably |
Slow, heavy cranking in the morning | Battery losing capacity | Short trips only, test it this week |
Battery light on while driving | Alternator not charging or broken drive belt | Drive straight to a workshop, the car is running on battery power only |
Battery flat after 2 or 3 days parked | Parasitic drain from a module, dashcam or tracker | Yes, but it will keep failing |
Lights dim at idle, brighten when revving | Weak alternator or bad ground connection | Yes in daylight, avoid night driving |
ABS and ESP lights on together | Wheel speed sensor or low system voltage | Yes with care, normal brakes work but ABS may not |
Airbag (SRS) light on | Seat connector, clock spring or crash sensor | You can drive, but airbags may not open in a crash |
Burning smell or a fuse that blows again | Short circuit in a harness | No, stop the car and call recovery |
Flickering gauges and random warnings | Corroded ground or water in a connector | Book a test soon |
A red warning light means stop or act now. An amber light means to book a check soon. If you are not sure, call us and describe the light before you drive.
Why Dubai Heat, Dust and Water Wear Out Car Electrics Faster
Dubai conditions damage electrical parts in ways drivers in cooler countries rarely see. These four causes explain most of the cars that come to our Al Quoz workshop for car electrical repair.
-
Summer Heat Shortens Battery Life
Battery Council International states that heat, not cold, is the main cause of car battery failure. High temperatures speed up corrosion of the lead plates inside and dry out the liquid. With 45°C summer air, the engine bay gets much hotter than the street. As a result, many batteries in the UAE last about 2 to 3 years. The same battery often lasts 4 to 5 years in a cooler climate.
-
Dust, Pressure Washers and Water in Connectors
Fine dust from industrial roads settles on connectors and holds moisture. A pressure washer aimed at the engine bay pushes water past the rubber seals. Over weeks, the metal pins grow white or green corrosion, and the circuit starts to fail on and off. Blocked sunroof drains cause a similar problem. Sand blocks the drain tubes, and rainwater or car wash water runs into the footwell, where some BMW, Volkswagen, and Land Rover models keep control modules.
-
The AC Keeps Your Alternator Working Hard
In summer, the AC compressor, the blower on high speed, and the radiator fans all draw current at the same time. An alternator gives less power at idle than at higher engine speed. Long idling in slow traffic on Sheik Zayed Road with the AC on puts a heavy load on it. A weak alternator can cope in winter and then fail in August.
-
Flood Damage After Heavy Rain
Failures can happen weeks later if water gets to parts under the seats and starts to rust them. If water got above your car's door sills, don't try to start it. Pull it in so we can test and dry the units before we power them up.
Car Electrical Repair Services at Our Al Quoz Workshop
Each car electrical repair service below starts with the diagnosis above, so you only pay for the part that failed.
Battery Testing, Replacement and Registration
We fit standard flooded batteries, EFB batteries and AGM batteries. Cars with start-stop need an EFB or AGM battery, and a standard battery fails early in these cars.
Many BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Volkswagen models also need the new battery registered with the car’s computer. Registration tells the intelligent battery sensor (IBS) that a new battery is fitted, so the charging system charges it correctly. Skipping this step can shorten the life of an expensive new battery.
Lights, Windows, Locks and Comfort Electrics
Dubai RTA vehicle testing at centers such as Tasjeel and Shamil checks that headlights, brake lights, and indicators work. We repair halogen, HID, and LED headlight, taillight, and indicator faults. Cheap LED upgrades often trigger a bulb failure warning because the car’s CAN bus reads the low current as a blown bulb.
We also fix power window motors and regulators, door lock actuators, electric seats, mirrors, the AC blower motor and resistor, and radiator cooling fans.
Car Electrical Repair for Hybrid and Electric Cars
Hybrid and electric cars still use a 12V auxiliary battery to wake up the system. When it fails, a Toyota hybrid or a Tesla can show the same dead car signs as a petrol car. We test the 12V battery and the DC-to-DC converter that charges it.
The orange cables on these cars carry high voltage, following the SAE J1673 color standard. Work on that side needs trained hands and insulated tools, so call us first, and we will confirm what your car needs.
Alternator Repair and Replacement
Often, the voltage regulator, brushes, diode bridge, or shaft is where alternators break. For less than the price of a new unit, some can be fixed on the bench.
We cover the price differences between new OEM, aftermarket, and remanufactured alternators and when it makes more sense to replace them. We also check the tensioner and serpentine belt because a slipping belt can have the same effects as a generator that isn’t powerful enough.
Starter Motor and No Start Faults
A no-start can come from the starter motor, solenoid, starter relay, ignition switch, or immobilizer. A dash light showing a key symbol points to the immobilizer or the key transponder, not the starter.
Wiring Harness, Fuse and Relay Repair
A fuse that blows again means a short circuit somewhere on that line. We find the damaged section and repair it with soldered joints and heat shrink sleeves, not twisted wires and tape. Aftermarket wiring from alarms, dashcams, trackers, and LED lights is a frequent cause, so we check any added wiring first.
ECU, BCM and Module Coding
Control modules such as the ECU, BCM, Mercedes SAM modules, and the BMW footwell module (FRM) can fail from heat, water, or voltage spikes. A replacement module usually needs to be coded to your car’s VIN before it works. We also program new keys and key fobs after an immobilizer repair.
Sensors and Warning Lights
Faulty sensors cause many warning lights. Common ones are ABS wheel speed sensors, crankshaft and camshaft position sensors, the MAF sensor, oxygen sensors, parking sensors, and TPMS sensors. We confirm the fault with live data before replacing a sensor, because a damaged wire gives the same code.
No Guesswork
How Car Garage Auto Repair Diagnoses an Electrical Fault
Every car electrical repair at our workshop starts with tests. Guessing with new parts costs you money and often leaves the real fault in place.
Step 1: Scan Every Control Module
We check trouble codes from more than just the engine. We use the SAE J1979 standard for generic OBD2 data. Follow SAE J2012: P stands for engine, B for body, C for chassis, and U for network faults.
These codes come up often in electrical work:
Code | Meaning | Common cause |
P0562 | System voltage low | Weak battery, alternator or bad ground |
P0620 | Generator control circuit | Alternator control wire or the alternator |
P0335 | Crankshaft position sensor A circuit | Sensor or wiring, the car may not start |
U0100 | Lost communication with ECM or PCM | Power, ground or network wiring to the engine computer |
A code tells us which circuit failed. It does not tell us which part failed, so the next steps matter.
Step 2: Test the Battery and Charging System
A healthy battery rests at about 12.6V. At 12.4V, it is about three-quarters charged, and at 12.2V it is half charged. During cranking, the voltage should stay above about 9.6V.
With the engine running, most charging systems hold between 13.8V and 14.7V. Many newer cars use smart charging that changes the voltage on purpose, so we read the live data for your model instead of using one fixed number. We also load test the battery against the cold cranking amps (CCA) printed on its label.
Step 3: Run Voltage Drop and Parasitic Drain Tests
A voltage drop test finds areas of resistance in a wire or ground while it’s carrying electricity. When it’s loaded, a good ground cable should lose no more than 0.2V. A higher number could mean corrosion or a loose bolt you can’t see.
For a battery that goes flat when parked, we measure the current draw after the modules go to sleep. On many modern cars, this takes 20 to 45 minutes. The draw should usually be under about 50 mA. If it is higher, we pull fuses one by one to find the circuit that stays awake.
Step 4: Check Wiring, Connectors and Grounds
We test the whole system by following your car’s wiring diagram. Check for continuity, make sure the connectors are tight, and look for chafed wires near moving or hot parts.
Step 5: Give You a Written Quote, Then Prove the Fix
You get the test results and a written quote before work starts. After the repair, we clear the codes, run the system through its function test, and road test the car.
The right decision
How to Stop Battery Drain From Dashcams and GPS Trackers
Dashcams with parking mode and GPS trackers are common in Dubai, and both can drain a battery. A dashcam wired straight to the battery keeps recording until the battery is too weak to start the car.
Use a hardwire kit with a low voltage cutoff, and set it at 12.0V or higher. Ask the fitter to connect it to a fused circuit, not to a random wire behind the dashboard. If your battery started dying after you fitted an accessory, a parasitic drain test will show it within an hour.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Why does my car battery keep dying?
The most common causes are a battery near the end of its life, an alternator that does not charge fully, or a parasitic drain. A battery test, a charging test, and a drain test together find the cause in about an hour.
Q2: How long do car batteries last in Dubai?
Most car batteries in Dubai last about 2 to 3 years. Heat speeds up internal corrosion and water loss, so batteries fail sooner than in cooler countries. Test your battery before each summer, especially once it’s more than two years old.
Q3: Is it safe to drive with the battery light?
You can drive a short distance, but go straight to a workshop. The battery light usually means the alternator is not charging, so the car runs on stored battery power until it runs out. Turn off the AC and other loads to stretch that time.
Q4: Can a car wash damage car electrics?
Yes. A pressure washer aimed at the engine bay or under the dashboard can force water into connectors and fuse boxes. Corrosion then causes faults days or weeks later. Ask the car wash to avoid spraying the engine bay directly.
Q5: Does a new battery need registration?
Many BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Volkswagen models need it, as do other cars with an intelligent battery sensor. Registration resets the charging strategy for the new battery. Without it, the car may charge the battery incorrectly and shorten its life.
Q6: What does car electrical repair cost in Dubai?
A full electrical diagnosis in Dubai usually costs AED 100 to 300. Repairs range from about AED 150 for a wiring fix to AED 2,500 for a new alternator on a luxury car. The final price depends on the part, the brand, and whether it needs coding.
Q7: How long does an electrical diagnosis take?
A standard diagnosis takes 1 to 2 hours. A battery drain test can take longer because modern cars need 20 to 45 minutes for their modules to sleep before we can measure the draw. Intermittent faults may need the car for a full day.
